The light installation "VÆRLØSE SQUARISH" was developed for Værløse Town Centre's 60th anniversary in 2021. The installation relates to the town's development over the last 60 years.
For the work, Tokyo Blue collected older photographs, film and maps from the period during which the idyllic village environment evolved into a modern town with taller buildings, straight lines and strict urban spaces, which form the central square.
Film and visual material were compiled into four Op Art-inspired film-sequences. During the celebration of the anniversary, the four films were shown, projected both on the pavement and several selected facades in the town square, giving people the opportunity to discover its history. To create a special evening setting, selected elements in the surroundings were staged with coloured light and filters, mounted on the existing lighting.

Værløse consists of a mix of citizens, who lived there when the town square was established, and newer generations who have moved to the town from Copenhagen. The installation aimed to create a connection between and across the generations and life in Værløse.
